Mingle & Craft: our creative PAUS tradition

Our cherished "Mingle events" are central of the soul of PAUS. They bring our community together for activities filled with joy, simplicity, and most of all - being present in the moment. 

Over the years, we’ve shared new traditions that feel natural to us, and Mingle & Craft is one of them. The idea is simple, to switch off and create, which in turn will ease your mind and allow the noise of the outside world to soften for a while.

This event runs in both Spring and Winter and there is an open invitation to guests of all generations to join us and craft festive decorations for our Hilltop Bistro - a space that gently transitions with the seasons (much like the rest of PAUS).

It’s welcoming, doesn’t require prior skills or experience - only a willingness to try!

Natural, reused, and thoughtfully chosen

We craft using only natural, foraged materials from around the Hilltop, and repurpose understated everyday items from around the home. What might seem ordinary or even disposable - even a humble loo roll centre - suddenly reveals its creative potential!

The designs are simple, but visually so effective! This year, we introduced some new, beautifully simple decorations with a colour palette to reflect the calm beauty of winter days; soft off-whites, browns, gentle beiges, accented by the natural reds of rose hips and the deep greens of conifers. Our crafters created cardboard gingerbread houses and hanging pinecone decorations adorned with berries and spruce.

Overall, an amazing 127 extra pieces were made over the two nights and added to the collection of decorations from last year!

The importance of slowing down

In a world filled with constant stimulation and endless demands, it can feel like a radical act to slow down and focus on just one thing. Yet that’s where deep relaxation lives, and where creativity becomes restorative..

We’ve always been proud of our motto: PAUS is a place where you can do a lot — while doing nothing at all. Perhaps “doing” can just be explorative, sensory, and immersive or just trying something in a new way. Sometimes - that’s exactly what we need the most to bring us back to life.
